Mr Black, in a statement, says that be j ie _ withdrawing at the request of the Wei fare League, in order to avoid splitting votes, with the consequent danegr of allowing the Hon J. T. Paul to slip in. Mr Black says he intends concentrating his eorbs on helping to defeat the extremist candidates in all seats. NOTES. In the Christchurch East electorate 150 absent voters’ permits have already been issued. In the following electoral districts the poll closes at 7 p.m.:— Avon. Christchurch North. Christchurch East. Christchurch South. Lyttelton. Riccarton. Timaru. _ In all other districts in Canterbury the poll closes at 6 p.m.
