BOXING.
NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. A meeting of (he. Council Committee was held on December 5, Mr J. R. Evans presiding. The executive reported having received, through the Northern Association, applications for affiliation from (he Northern Wairoa and Waihi associations. The applications had been granted. An application had cecn received from tho Hokitika Association for permission to allow an exhibition bout between an amateur end a professional at tho association’s opening tournament. Permission had been granted on tho understanding that tho bout was purely an exhibition, and lha.t no prize was offered. The Waihi association protested against L. Robinson bring advertised as tealher-weighl champion, Venn claiming that ho was the. holder of the title. A reply had been forwarded to tbo effect that the council recognised Robinson ns the champion in the class, and that Venn’s claims wove' unfounded. Tho roport was Adopted Air James wrote resigning the light-weight championship, as ho found that, an injury to his leg was of such a nature as to render it impossible for him to defend tho title. It was decided that. P. Cook, from yhom James won tho tide, should be selected to defend it. Tho Greymotidi assoc,iation was granted permission to match Cann, of \\ anganui, and Ladhury, of Grcymonuth, for the bantamweight championship. Correspondence was received from tho Otago association complaining that W. Oliver, of Auckland, had agreed to meet Goodman in a professional contest., and hod withdrawn alter tho association had completed its arrangements to promote tho event. It was deeded to deal with the matter on receipt ot Olivers explanation. The secretary of tha 'iima.ru association wrote that his association was prepared to c.arryy out the New Zealand championship if they were to be allotted this season. The secretary was instructed to reply that the council had decided, early in the season, that tho championships should not bo hold. It was decided to call a conference of representatives of local associations nt, Wellington about the middlo of January. Messrs 0. T. Aschman and F. W. Johnston wore appointed to represent the- council.
