SALE OF WORK.
A garden fete and sale of work in aid of the church funds was opened at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Phillipstown, yesterday afternoon. There was a largo attendance of parishioners and brisk business was done at the numerous stalls. A large marquee had been erected in 'he church grounds, in which were most of the stalls and refreshments were served in the schoolroom. The stalls included cake and sweets stalls, dower stall, work stall, book and novelty stall, produce stall and a mission stall arranged by the Phillipstown branch of the Heralds of the King. A special feature of the fete was the Christmastree, presided over by Father Christmas, which proved a great attraction for the children. The fete was open in the evening, when several side-shows were opened. To-day the fete will be continued. In the afternoon a special concert for children will be given, and this evening the Avonside choir will provide an entertainment. Tim stall-holders were:—Heralds of the King Missionary stall, Mrs Betts: Parish Guild stall, Mesdames Nash and M’Alister; Sanctuary Guild .stalk Mrs Flower and Misses Nash and Craddock; Sunday School stall, Mrs Halliday; pro-
duce stall, Mesdames Lye and Herteell; cake stall, Mesdames Cragg and Cole; sweets stall, Mesdames Livingstone and Gouriey; Mothers’ Union stall, Mesdames 1 ye, Archbold and Crespin and Miss Griffin; refreshment stall, Misses Spence and Williams and AL ;s Pickles; Christmas-tree. Mrs Chaplin and Father Christmas; weighing machine, Aliss Frner; ice-cream stall, Mesdames Grav and Lutten; American box-ball , Sister Shaw, Air Len Harper; art gallery, Air George Peufold; gatekeeper, Air Carter.
