I he erection of ;i AVar Memorial was discussed by the executive of the Can-, terhnry Progress League last evening, the question having been introduced by a telephone message to the organiser from J)r Thacker, urging the league’s co-operation. Members expressed the opinion that there was grave danger of the proposal being allowed to drop, principally on account of the rivalry between supporters of different schemes. The province should bo given a lead by a public body competent to act. and every effort should be made to bring about cither a national or a provincial memorial. After considerable discussion in committee, the question was deferred, Tim cost of publishing pamphlets issued for the purpose of “ boosting ” the province was discussed at a meeting of the executive of the Canterbury Progress league last evening. The'organiser (Air P. R. Climie) urged that Mr Massey should bo asked if he was in favour of the Government- bearing the expense of publications arranged by the league for the purpose of advertismg Canterbury and; incidentally, the 1 i/ominiou. The chairman (Air A. 6. 1 Henderson) said that such publications should be subsidised. The league, in publishing these booklets, was really doing the work of the Government. It was decided that the chairman and Air ; V - b-Wright should wait on the Prime Minister in connection with this matter.
