Bf/'IXl) SOLDIER’S CASE. Pleasant reading is afforded by a report presented to last night’s meeting of the Canterbury Repatriation Board by their chairman (Mr A. IV. •lamieson). It ivl'As to 4)ie case of a I blind returned soldier arid his wife, which came under notice some time ago. ■lho report stated that the Returned ■Soldiers’ Association took action which resulted in the adjustment of a pension. The Canterbury Patriotic. Society’s attention was directed to the case. As tlie result of several conferences a speI cial committee was sot up. and the society’s executive, entered most sympathetically into tho matter, with the result that a nice home, comprising a, house of five rooms, ap acre of land already planted, and poultry, was supj plied. Furniture was being provided, and wallpaper was being donated by a member of the hoard, who was also arranging for the Master Painters’ Association to carry out-fhe work of inside renovation. It was qnito possible that local electrical firms would instai | electric lighting. Donations towards I a gramaphonc were received.' and it j was Imped to supply the instrument and j records before. Christmas. F. Drayton moved that a , heartv vole of thanks should be accorded to the' Patriotic Committee amt in -Mr F. I\ . Hobbs (representative nt j Ibe committee, on (be board) for tlm ! excellent work which they had done in relation to the ease. Mr N. P. MTallum seconded the motion, and said that the case was a. particularly deserving one. The man was not only blind,’ but disabled in other ways. The chairman said, in reply to a. question, that ease was a remarkable one. The couple had not applied for one penny, and thev wero more than satisfied with what had been done for them. It was a, privilege to help them. The trust had been acceptecf without demur. Tho motion was carried.
