TO-DAY'S SITTING. CHRISTCHURCH. i\lr S. E. MT'artliy. S.M., presided over to-day s sitting of the Magistrate's Court. FALSE/ PRETENCES. Ernest Roland Rirdling, alias A. Bailey, appeared on two charges, one. ol obtaining on Juno 30, from B. Hansen, ..C2, by falsely representing that he was employed as manager for -Mr Andrew's, of Springfield, for his fare, and one oi obtaining from Thomas Hart on November 10, by falsely representing that, ho required the money to pay steamer freight, of two horses' belonging to Hi- Fleming, of the Bays. Accused pleaded guilty. Detective-Sergeant Connolly -mid that, on November 1.0 accused went, to Mr Tlart, secretary ol the Canterbury Club, and told Idm that he had horses' lor the show and wanted money to pay the Height on account, of Fleming. Cyril Hill was lined 10s and costs. Robert Ai’Millan was fined 10s and costs for motor-cycling at night without baying a light attached to his machine Arthur A\ illiam Plummer and Sidney Brower, for eyling at night without lignts, were each lined 10s and costs. Edgar Colenso, for cycling at night without a light, and for giving a. false name and address to a constable in uniform, was fined 30s and costs. C. Hanna. was fined os and costs for allowing a chimney to catch fire. AVilliam Spronls and Hilary Rcndlo were each lined I.os and costs i'or pillion ruling. For riding a motor-bicycle without having a certificate of ability, Harold none was fined 10s and costs. A fine of 10s and costs, with witnesses’ expenses, was inflicted upon Ernest Alfred Sisson for attemptinr. to enter a moving tramcar. John.Hollingsworth pleaded guilty to a charge of having driven a motor vehicle m a manner dangerous to the public, lie was fined £2 and costs. Malcolm E. Horan. Defendant: If you had a wheelbarrow with a number on ii you would get caught. Giving evidence, defendant said ho came back from the Rnngiorn races along the North Road, for the reason that if he kept to the speed limit he could not he summoned. A hoy told him that “there was a policeman on the corner taking names. - ’ “ Was it likely, in these circumstances, that I should oxemle the speed limit?” asked , defendant. “It doesn’t matter what was likely,” . said the Magistrate. “ T am concerned ’ with what happened.” ’ Defendant continued that his speed--1 j omelet- wa> registering 12-13 miles per ithour all the time.
