HOW TO MAKE A PERFUME JAR.
4A perfume jar is a, most, delightful possession. As' a rule, tho simple drying of fragrant flowers gives an indifferent result, and to obtain the finest outcome it is needful to mix the petals with a medium. Go to a chemist and get a. quarter of a pound of saltpetre and one ounce of storax. Then"mix this with half a pound of finely powdered and very dry salt. Add to this a handful of dried lavender leaves (also to lie obtained from tho chemist) and just a very few cloves. A jar with ti close-titling lid should he secured; ono of those in which pro T served ginger is packed would he very suitable for the purpose. Into this the prepared ingredients are placed. Any kinds of sweet-smelling flowers might he used, hut it is much better to keep to one variety. Thus, if von .are to have a rose perfume jar. use only rose petals, not mixing any other kinds of flowers, however fragrant they rnav he. As tho petals are gathered, spread them ’on a tray to dry. "When they are crisp, as they soon will he after exposure to sunshine, throw them into the jar and mix with the ingredients j already there. When the jar is almost full, close the lid and place it on one side. For the first, few days the perfume will not be very marked, hut after about a, week the full fragrance will he given out. A room may bo deliciously scented by simply removing tho cover of the jar for ton minutes or so. When jars are not available cardboard boxes may be used, and many aro tho ways in which those mn.v he beautified to (it them for this purpose.
