Major-General Sir Edward Charter, who returned by the Arawa, arrived in Palmerston North yesterday. He was accorded a civic reception, a la roe crowd attending. The business premises were closed during the reception. Mrs Eli Scott, Bang! ora, has received word that her son; Second hieu tenant J. Peacock, is returning to New Zealand by the transport Rnahine. luotirenaut Peacock went to the trout as a private with one of the early reminreomonts, and a month before the armistice sustained a wound that necessitated the amputation of one of his legs. The Mayor, Dr Thacker, is spending a brief holiday at Chains Bay. A Press Association message from 'Wellington states that Air J., W. Milne, general manager of the Taranaki Farmers’ .Meat Company, has been appointed general manager of the Wellington Meat Export Company, vice Mr W. G. Foster (retired).
