SHIPPING CASE.
CANADIAN APPLES. [Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, November 5. An action of considerable importance was begun in the Supremo Court. Grove and Company are sning tho Union Company for £1037 in respect of a thousand cases of Canadian apples, being tho difference between what they would have fetched and what they did realise after having been over-carried to Sydney by tho Makura, after that vessel was quarantined at the beginning of December. It was contended that the Union Company should have discharged tho apples into lighters at the Quai’antine Station. They were not delivered in Auckland until January 32, when local apples were on the market. The case is taken as a test as affecting other Auckland claims in respect of 14,500 cases of apples, the total claims being alwut £IO,OOO. The case was heard before Mr Justice Cooper and a jury. Mr Skerrett and Mr Bamford appeared for tho plaintiffs, and Sir J. Findlay and Mr M’Vcach for the defendants. Tho ease was not finish#! when tho r, ourt adjourned
