THE LATE MR COLVIN.

The tragic death of Mr John Colvin, the veteran member for Buller, will be sincerely regretted by a host of friends. The circumstances are unusually sad, as Mr Colvin had intended to retire from the House after the end of the session, though he would in all probability have been paid the deserved compliment of a seat in the Legislative Council. He was a man of singularly charming personality. Though of venerable, even patriarchal, appearance, he had the heart and spirit of youth, and was one of, the most kindly and genial souls imaginable. He was an honest and sincere worker in the House, and though he was not a spectacular politician, he has left his imprint on the legislation of his country. The sympathy of the country will g 0 out to those who have been so suddenly and tragically bereaved.'
