SEA SCOUTS.

HALL OPENED AT LYTTELTON; \ Tho opening’ ceremony was performed during the week-end of the new hall in; Norwich Quay, Lyttelton, recently secured and renovated for the new corps of Sea Scouts during' tho past month by Mr SI Booth superintendent of the Lyttelton 1 Seamen's Institute, who is acting as Scoutmaster. Lester (Mayor), in the course 'of a short speech to the boys outside the hah, saicj that ho was pleased to see thatra ttca Scouts’ corps had’ been formed at Lyttelton, because Lyttelton .being a seaport, Ht was appropriate that tho boys should receive, ; a training such as that which they would obtain through their joining the Sea Scouts, and which undoubtedly they would find- of much value later in .life. He hoped that the boys would be attentive .id. their., commander. Mr Lester then asked (Mrs Lester to open the door of the hall. Inside the building, Colonel Cdssgrbve .addressed the boys in reference to the Boy ; Scout activities, which had become : universal. The hall which, had been, opened icr team, that afternoon was the largest-of its' kind in New Zealand, and he hoped that the Lyttelton troop of Sea Sc’cVs would become tho largest in tho Dominion. Lyttelton once had the largest troop in New Zealand of Boy Scouts, but owing Ito tho. loss of their energetic Scoutmaster, the troop soon broke up. However, . the newly-formed, troop, of Sea Scouts’were at present well organised. They had made an excellent stark and with tho "advantages they had in possessing such a line hall, they should receive much useful training. In Mr Booth they had a most energetic organiser and worker. Captain J. A. H. Marciel and The Rev Mr Todd also spoke. During the afternoon the troop was iirsnooted by Colonel Cossgrovo and the Rev, Mr Frost. Colonel Cossgiove presented seren of the boys who had passed the signal ling and compass test with the Scouts’ badgi for that .work.
