FLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA.
—_-^ —- MATTHEWS REACHES COLOGNE. THE NEXT STAGES. By Telegraph—Press Association — Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received October 27, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, October 25. The- Air Ministry's telegram has allayed the anxiety in London concerning Captain Matthews and Sergeant Kay. It was evidently decided that the Paris-Lyons-Frejus route was not as direct as a line across Germany. Captain Matthews landed at Marquise on Tuesday afternoon, and at Cologne the following day. Flying over enemy countries is forbidden, but apparently an exemption was made in favour of the England to Australia, fliers. Captain Matthews rntends to follow a trans-Gerraan-Austrian route, thence to Malta and Egypt. There may thus be , considerable periods without news of his progress. (A message received overnight trtated:—-Tit Air Ministry announces that Captain Matthews arrived at Cologno at two. o'clock on Wednesday. The Ministry does not know whether he will he allowed to proceed in defiance of the International Convention forbidding flights across Germany.) .„
