During the interval lor afternoon tea at the annual sports, gathering at St Andrew’s College yesterday afternoon, the now and up-to-date gymnasium, which has recently been completed, was officially opened by the Rev Dr Erwin, chairman of the . Board of GovernorsDr Erwin said he was pleased with tire progress which the college had made, but he hoped it would becoipc bigger and bigger each year until they, were forced to erect new buildings. At the present time there were about 120 pupils, of whom forty' were boarders, and the present accommodation ' was more ‘than ample for 'requirements. When the number of pupils grew larger it was intended to erect a new school housp adjacent to the present one. Ihe intention was to develop all sides of the boys’ characters; the physical as well as the mental, and while it was recognised that the chief aim of the school was to develop the mental capacities of the pupils, the physical side would take a prominent part- Evidence of this was to be seen that day when a fine programme of sports had ■been carried out. The next need of the college was a swimming pool, and 1 the members of the hoard were looking forward to someone coming' along and endowing the college with this valuable adjunct. Mr S. .11.
