Mr J. M. A. Ilott, of Wellington, arrived in Christchurch from the north to-day. Mr John Wood, of Christchurch, will judge harness horses at the Metropolitan Show. Mrs Wheeler is to give an address on Monday afternoon at 2.30 in the Methodist schoolroom, Fitzgerald Ave- ‘ nuo, under the auspices of the Methodist Women’s Missionary Auxiliary.’ Mrs S, Prebble, Worcester Street, has been advised that lior son, Private Janies L. Prebble, Seventeenth Reinforcements, is returning by the Remuera, due to arrive at Auckland on October 26. ’ i 'k Press Association message jrom xuarton states that Brigadier-General tuning was, entertained at a banquet at Marten last evening by representatives from all parts of Rangitikei prior to his departure to take charge of the Otago military district. BrigadierGeneral Meldrum was present. The proceedings were enthusiastic. Briga-dier-General Young was presented with a beautiful tea- service, suitably inscribed. „ Wednesday next the Black and White Troubadours, under the management of Mr Alfred Penfbn, and assisted by Miss Jessie Duff, Mr Stanley Rankin, and Mr Erio Bell’s salon orchestra, will render a grand benefit concert in aid of four Spreydon families who are in straightened circumstances. This will be the first appearance of the comply before a Christchurch audience. Special features of this entertainment are the number of fine concerted items, together with the !< classical ragtime ” song, “'Hie Mad Jazz Razz,” composed by Mr Alfred Ivor Weir, of Christchurch.
