The monthly meeting of the Committee of the North-Canterbury A. and P. Association' was held at Rangiora today, Mr R. M’ln tosh presiding over an attendance, of twenty members. Two tenders for the erection of the association’s new hall and offices were opened. One was informal and the other was substantially above the estimated cost of the building. After some discussion :it was decided to hold the matter over for a month. The tender of Mr Sullivan for the license of the publican’s booth at the Show, at £ls 10s, and of Mr A. E. Lower at £lO 10s for the luncheon booth, were accepted. Several vacancies in the judges’ and class stewards’ lists were filled. A new departure m connection witn the business life of the city was inaugurated on Monday evening, when the employees of Messrs W. Strange and Co., Ltd., met to consider the formation of a social club. A largely attended meeting was presided over by Mr V' _ Hope, who explained that the launching of this scheme was made possible by the companv’s generous donation of, a-sum of money sufficient for the purposes of the project. Premises have|been secured within a few steps of the, company’s warehouse, and they c6nsls|,jof v a rest room for ladies, a smokipg arid lounge room for men, and a larje room to be used as a reading room and for meetings, and ments/']; A set of rules embodying the constitution and objects of bho club were drawn up and passed. It was decided. that the club should he conducted ‘under the auspices of the Victoria, -House Mutual Aid Society. A unanimous vote of thanks was accorded to the ..company for its kindly interest and.-. • generous donation.
