Navy Day will be held on Friday, October 31. At last night’s meeting of the Sumner Borough Council a letter was received from Mr 11. Speight, curator of the Canterbury Museum, thanking the council for the opportunity given to thoroughly examine the newly-dis-covcred caves at Itedciifts, before the public 'were admitted. The curator .stated that in the search made pits had been dug, but the only remains found were those of a seal, which crumbled immediately on being touched, and layers of shells and sand. The fbn J. Barr, referring to the matter, said that he had made a personal examination of the caves. The series consisted of several chambers, of a ■otai depth of about sis chains. He iurther stated that there was, in one chamber . a deposit of • excellent sharp sand, which in all probability would be put to good use some day. It was quite ebuorent from the sand found in the district
