RAILWAY FACILITIES.

HARBOUR BOARD’S REQUESTS, [From Our Correspondent.] WELLINGTON, October 11. Mr Alassey, replying to a deputation from the Lyttelton Harbonr Board, urging greater railway facilities, said that ho realised tho difficulties both in regard to railway yards and the duplication of the tunnel. Other centres were similarly handicapped, as traffic had considerably outgrown the equipment and owing to improvements being impossible during the war. A large appropriation for railway improvements was being made this year and certain I improvements would be effected in Christchurch, but full satisfaction would never be obtained until Mr lliley’s scheme was m operation. Owing to the shortage of labour it was evident that an immigration scheme would have to te put into operation soon. He would discuss the deputation’s requests -with the General Manager of Railways at the beginning of the week-
