A contcrenco of school teachers decided to apply for registration under the trades Union Act. LACK OF SHIPPING. MELBOURNE, September 30. A meeting of merchants protested against the lack of shipping between Melbourne and New Zealand, and decided to co-operate with the Chamber of Commerce in order to secure redress. It was stated that there were 20,000 tons of cargo at Melbourne awaiting shipment, STATE RIGHTS. ■the conference Mr Hughes said that the State Premiers had agreed to surrender certain powers to the Commonwealth to enable Air Hughes to deal with profiteering. WHEAT PRICES. The Farmers’ Conference carried a motion that the price of wheat sold within the Commonwealth should be not less than the export, f.o.b. price, and also favoured a continuation of tho wheat pools. It was decided to formulate a scheme whereby the system should gradually resolve itself into a growers’ handling and #rilin,r association.
