Sir Joseph Ward left for the north by the Mararoa kst evening. The Mayor (Dr Thacker. M.P.) will leave for Wellington to-night or on Thursday. Mr S. A. Williams, of Sumner, whose work as a Press correspondent in Russia is known throughout the -world, returned to Russia last May as correspondent of “ The Times” and “ Daily Chronicle,” aud is now with Denikin’s forces. His brother, Mr Aubrey L Williams, who Is at present in Christchurch, has also had wide experience of Russia and was associated in Petrograd with his brother at the outbreak of war. Dr Harold Williams’s wife, a highly talented Russian lady, has recently published in London a book, “From Liberty to Brest-Litovsk,” which gives a very vivid picture of tho strenuous days from the Revolution of 1917 down to the signing of the treaty [ between the Bolsheviks Germany.
