SPECIAL HOSPITAL NEEDED HOSPITAL BOARD TAKES ACTION. The question of providing a special hospital for venereal cases tvas briefly discussed at to-day’s meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board. The discussion arose out of the following clause in the Institutions! Committee’s report:— “ Through the amendment of tho Public Health Act the patrols appointed aro finding cases that require to bo treated in an institution, and it will he a matter for the hoard to consider, at an early date, the best means of providing the accommodation and attendance required.” Tho chairman said the hoard had power under tho Social Hygiene Act to establish a special hospital. Mr F. G. Norton, chairman of the committee, said that the matter was a serious one for tho community, and something must he done. Hiey must handle the question fearlessly and all "put their shoulders to the wheel.” Mr O. Bradley said that great objection had been raised by the womenfolk to the proposal to set anart a special hospital for these cases.' It was pointed out by a lady member of the board that women did not object to a hospital whore all cases would he treated, hut they objected to women being singled out for treatment while the men were left “ soot free.” It was decided to refer the question of establishing a hospital for venereal cases to the Hospital Committee.
