LYTTELTON MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

+ Mr S. E. M’Carthy, S-M., presided at the Lyttelton Magistrate’s Court to-day. Edward James Lester, charged with having procured liquor and with entermg licensed premises, Was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. On a charge of havingassaulted his wife, he was similarly dealt with. Henry Keogh, Samuel Hughes, John Labery and William Fox, charged with breaches of their prohibition orders were each fined £2, in default seven days’ imprisonment. .May Merrick, for breaking her prohibition order, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. The Magistrate stated that if she appeared before him again he would send her to an inebriates’ home. ■ ■ Charles Neville was charged with assaulting Danied Wareham, licensee of the Mitre Hotel, and also with stealing £6 18s from the till. He pleaded guilty to both charges. Ho was convicted and fined £5, in default one month’s imprisonment, on the first charge, half the fine to be paid to Daniel Wareham- On the second ciiarge he was ordered to refund the money and to come up for sentonco when called upon.
