EDUCATIONAL BRIT.
£3,000,000 ASKED FOR. COMPLETE EDUCATION URGED. f?BR Press Association.] WELLINGTON. September 3 The conference of the School Committees Association asked Mr Massey and the Minister of Education, Sir Francis 8011, for an educational grant °j £3.000,000 'for the improvements o* boddmgs, and increasing capitation and teachers’ salaries, and for free education from kindergarten to university. In a sense they urged that the State should conscript the child during its educational years. Mr Massey said the School Committees were doing great work without receiving much recognition. A bigger educational vote would be given, hut he could not say how much. It. was not creditable, to the country that many teachers were receiving less than labourers’ wages. That state of affairs should be changed. Nothing it was possible for him to do as head of the Government would be left undone.
