MONTHLY MEETING. t The monthly meeting of the Waipara' County Council was neid on Saturday; present—Councillors E. Evans (chairman,), A. Cameron, 1). J. Beak, E. D. Campbell, O. T. Evans and \V. W. M Eae. Correspondence -.vat, received from the secretary oi the Omihi Monument Committee, | asking for permission for the monument to encroach, on the road ai the school corner. As there is ample room at that corner the request was granted. The Mon G, \v Russell, Minister of Internal Adairs, wrote, staling that expenditure in connection with the visit of ii.M.S. New Zealand would be validated. The Citizens’ Entertainment Committee wrote that they were endeavouring to arrange for trains to convey the school children to view the battleship. 'lt was resolved that the sum of £3O- be voted to the Entertainment Committee., The North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote, stating that one case of influenza had been reported in the county. Mr S. IT. Price, on behalf or the old Epidemic Committee, wrote, asking if the council was taking any action to combat a future outbreak. it was resolved that the council form themselves into a committee, cud that each councillor hold a meeting in his own riding for the purpose of forming sub-commit tecs to thoroughly organise the districts without delay. It was further resolved to secure the necessary drugs, and to arrange for a trained nurse to be reserved for the county. Mr P, E Cl.imie, organiser for the Canterbury Progress League, attended the meeting at the request of the chairman to discuss the possibility of hydro-electrical extension in the northern counties. It was resolved that Mr Climie be empowered to arrange for a conference, including Amuri, Cheviot and Waipara counties, on September 22, Messrs D. Earroch and H. Saundercock attended to ask if the council was taking steps to erect a permanent memorial in honour of the fallen soldiers throughout the whole county. The matter was held over for further consideration. The Now Zealand Counties Association wrote, stating that owing to the railway curtailment, the annual conference had been postponed indefinitely. Hawkers’ by-laws were confirmed, and will come into force on September 21. The clerk was instructed to notify all persons as to the removal of gorse and broom, and, if necessary, to take action to have the growths cleared. Accounts amounting to £750 were passed for payment.
