For mixing cake and pastry an old marble slab or a piece of -plate-glass is better than a hoard. To remove the smell of cooking, toko a basin of boiling water and pour into it about five drops of oil of lavender. To induce a canary to take a bath, sprinkle a few seeds upon the wafer. This added attraction, will make the bath become ;l habit. To stop hiccups, give the patient a teaspoon! ul_ of granulated sugar and vinegar. _ if this does not afford install relief, repeat the dose. When cake-tins are worn thin, scatter a little sand over the oven shelf before putting^the tin in, and the cako will not burn in the baking. To removes the smell of paint -place a few slices of onion in a pail of water and leave it in the room for a few i bomsj _ Charcoal is a capital disinfectant. I Keep a dish, of it in the larder, and the food kept there will not quickly taint. The charcoal should be changed every ten days. When cooking turnips add a teaspoonful of whit© sugar to the water. This greatly improves their flavour. To Keep Cheese.—Saturate a cloth with vinegar and place it over. 1 he* cheese. By so doinp- any sort of cheese will keep as fresh and free from mould as when new and for any length of time. To Clean Forks.—lf a hard wood stick be covered with cleaning cloth and applied between the prongs of forks, they will_ he cleansed satisfactorily in half the time and a great deal of labour is saved. A Stocking Tip.—The dye used for stockings is sometimes very inferior, and one washing often turns them an ugly colour. Wash your hose in warm water, to which has been added a little vinegar. This fixes the dye and keeps stockings a good colour. Bird gravel is excellent for putting in a bowl to hold up short stemmed flowers. ' A little ground ginger added to stewed figs will give piquancy to the flavour-
