♦ TO-DAY’S CASES. CHRISTCHURCH. Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., presided over to-day’s sittings of the Magistrate’s Court. DRUNKENNESS. ETC. Mb Hi am Palmer pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness and of casting offensive matter on Whiteloigh Avenue. He was convicted and discharged om the first charge, and fined 10s and costs on the second. Allan Joseph M’Donald was charged with drunkenness and with refnsing to quit licensed premises—the Terminus Hotel—when requested to do so. “I don’t know anything about it,” said accused, after the second charge had been read to him. He was fined 5s on the first charge, and 10s on the second one. “ A VERY BAD COLD.” ‘•’This is his third offence within six months,” said Sub-Inspector Muljanay, when Thomas Manion was charged with drunkenness. “I am very sorry indeed,” said Manion. “I had a very bad cold ” “ Fined 20s and costs, in default seven days,” said the Magistrate. “Will you give me time to pay?” asked the offender. “ No,” replied the Magistrate. FIRST OFFENDERS. Two first offenders, one of whom was a statutory first offender, were each fined 6s and. costs for drunkenness. “RIGHT YOU ARE.” Ernest Alfred Candy pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing, on. August 21, a horse cover valued at £2TOa 9d, belonging to Samuel Humphreys. “This man is a drover, and resides at Ricearton,” said Chief-Detective M’Hveney “I understand• that he is also a ranger for the Waimairi district. He was seen taking the horse cover from a horse grazing at Tai Tapn. Subsequently the cover was discovered on his premises l by Detective Bade,” “ Convicted and fined £5,” said the Mrigistrat*. “Can I have time to pav?” asked accused. “ Yes.” replied the Magistrate. ■ ■ “ Right you are,” he said as he left the dock. • “In default one month,” added the Magistrate.
