SHIPPING NOTES. The Hororata, with troops on board, from Plymouth via Cape Town and Hobart, is due at Wellington on September 20, The Orari (New Zealand Shipping Company) is to leave Wellington on Saturday for London via Panama. Mr M. W. Horton, formerly traffic manager for the Union Steam Ship Comnany at Wellington, is now in tho company s head office at Dunedin. The Manuka, after being held up at Wellington for a considerable time, was expected to leave Wellington last evening for Sydney with cargo and passengers. Captain Clift is in command, and with him are the following officers:—Chief, Mr A. Reed; eocond, Mr G. W. Evans; third, Mr P. Istnstcr; chief engineer, Mr P. Mudie; purser, Mr W. J. Neville; assistant purser, Mk W. Skealcs; wireless operator, Mr A. S. Smith, The Port Darwin was due at Wellington this morning from Sydney. Tho Port Melbourne, en route from 5 London with cargo for Auckland, Napier and Wellington, will leave Newcastle on Sunday for Auckland, where she is duo on September 4. She will call at Wellington later. Tbo new steamer Camana, which was only launched last year, arrived in Nauier on Wednesday morning from .England, via Colon, to load frozen meat for the Homeland. The Camana is a Blue Stat linei, and is at present under charter to the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company, Messrs Dalgety and Co being tho Napier agents. The vessel commenced loading the following morning, and will probably bo at Napier for at least ton days. Napier is to be her only port of call, and the vessel will return Home immediately after loading, via the P.anama route. At Napier tho Camana will create a record for the size of the meat cargo taken in. one shin. She is to take 95,000 freight carcases, equal to 120,000 sheep. Of that quantity, the Wairoa Freezing Company will provide 35.000 carcases, and the balance will come from tbo North British, Whakalu, Tomoana and Paid Paid works, all of which are full of meat. The meat to be taken on is over 90.000 carcases larger than any previous shipment. and its dead weight will be in the neighbourhood of 2250 tons.' The vessel came out in ballast, and has sufficient coal on board to see her back to America. On Thursday last the Scales barque Raupo came out of dock at Auckland, and berthed fo complete her survey and overhaul. She will get away shortly for San Francisco, via Suva. The following telegram has been received by the Collector of Customs at Auckland from the harbourmaster at Whakatano; “Two mud barges carried to sea on Sunday night’s flood. Will you advise coastal shipping V Something floating between Rnriiua Island and Whale Island, but think too largo for either nunt.” The Kowhai,. having completed her repairing at Wellington, is to leave that port for Greymouth to-day, where she will load for Wellington. Captain Plowman, late- of the Kaitangata, is to take command of the vessel The six-masted barquentine, E R. Sterling, which is at present discharging a cargo of coal at Auckland, Will on completion load timber and general cargo for Sydney. She will then proceed to Newcastle to load coal for Auckland. _ The .Waiwera is due -at Wellington to-day •with a cargo of coal from Newcastle. On discharging, the vessel will proceed to Nelson to commence loading. Afterwards she will call at New Plymouth, Lyttelton and Wellington to complete loading for Homo ports. ; Tho : Canopus arrived at Lyttelton yesterday morning fully laden with coal. The vessel is expected to leave again for Westport on Friday night. The Kamo is. expected to finish her loading of timber and coal to-day, in which case she will sail -this evening for Greymonth. The Mana -is due at Wellington to-morrow from Nydia Bay. She will sail to-morrow for Picton and Lyttelton. Messrs Workman, Clark and Co. recently launched from their North Yard, Belfast, the model twin-screw steamship Port Caroline, for the Commonwealth and Dominion Company’s colonial service. The vessel is 470 ft long and 44ft broad, and of ‘B3OO tons gross register, and of about 11,000 tons dead-weight capacity. The coastal steamer Manaroa arrived from Wellington last evening. She is expected to sail on Friday on the return trip to Wellington. 'The Putiki is expected to be dispatched from Wellington for southern ports to-day. Tffie Orepuki, on finishing her loading of general cargo for .Greymouth. and Hokitika, sailed last evening for tho former port. Messrs J. Rattray and Son, Ltd., have received advice that the s.s. Bellfort, which was to have loaded this month et New York for New Zealand and Australian ports,, has been withdrawn. The To Anaii is to leave Gisborne icr Dunedin on Monday next. The vessel will afterwards call at Oamani, Timaru, Lyttelton. Nelson and' New Plymouth. The Navua is to leave Auckland on Saturday for Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and Bluff. She is duo hero about tie middle of next week.
