COAT OF KHAKI.
Dear familiar coat of khaki, Orders are to lay you by. We have seen rough times together, Coat of khaki, you and I. When at first 1 proudly wore you, Home ray wayward thought would turn I/ife was sweet, hut Death looked bitter, Patience ever hard to learn. "We have heerq through hell together, Days and nights without an end; Found the face of Death unmasked Wore the semblance of a friend. But my dreams were of the future, Of that time dear to my heart, When I’d lake you off for ever, You and I, old coat, to part. Now the time, and this the. patting; Work together finished, ended. And the old life’s broken pieces Are in waiting to bo mended. Coat of khaki, your work’s over, But I find mine just begun; To hold fast, secure for ever, All that Victory has won. "Carry on” in suit of mufti. Duties left hy those who died. Gladly, yes, my solo regretting Is that you are laid aside. —M. H. Doorly.
