EUROPEAN COAL CRISIS.
GRAVITY OF POSITION. ALARMING SHORTAGE OF SUPPLIES. I" * Tslw~sph—Pre«n Association—Copyright Australian and K.Z. Cable Association. (Received August 6, 11.25 a.m.) LONDON, August 3.. The Supreme Economic Council met in London at the week-end and viewed the European coal situation with the utmost gravity. Tim production Ims fallen dangerously low, and it is impossible to decrease the consumption sufficiently to meet the deficit owing to the essential minimum, requirements. The only remedy is to increase production and improve the distributive organisation. The latest estimate of the British output is 180,000,000 tons, which d'oes not suffice for internal consumption- Italy’s prospects are considered grave in view of the cessation of British exports.
