Ihe Railway authorities in church are not in a position yet t# :: publish further details of restricted se£s vices than those advertised to-day. £ « It is not known yet whether any particular officer will bo instructed to receive applications for the right to travel on trams; whether this rule will ap--7,,*° holders of annual tickets: - whether country people will be able to'Doolc tickets m advance o r must attend at stations to find if they are eligible; or whether the regulations will be in" force in Canterbury during.the anGrand National week. Mr Grant, Chief Traffic Clerk, in to a question to-day, said that it had not been possible to discover how: many passengers in Canterbury , were travelling for pleasure, but there was a fairly large number or women and .ch.il. dren - amongst the passengers and it presumed that a good proportion of them were on pleasure trips. A suggestion has been made that the present restricted service should he speeded up, partly by cutting out delays' to locomotives at stations. Mr Grant states that this could he done only at considerable sacrifice to the service of essential goods, and is not considered advisable.
