Mr E. E Stark, City Electrical Engin l eer ’ speaking to a representative of the Star/’ said that nil the arrangements for peace illuminations bad run very well. It was in hia plans to have one of the arches with indirect illumination, so as to give a more novel effect, but on account of the short notice the pmstorers would have been unable to complete the scheme as laid out. It was the endeavour of the Illuminations Sub-committee to give as much variety as possible. The effect on the Cathedral Square arches was assisted by the method of plastering. The surface not being absolutely smooth assisted in halting the effect from each lamp, and was particularly pleasing with the amber-coloured lamps, giving the whole a mottled marbleised effect.
