INDUSTRIES COMMITTEE.
A - COMPREHENSIVE REPORT.
• [Fuqh Ovß , CowiEs?p»DiarT.] WELLINGTON, July 9. The Select Committee of the House set up to , investigate' matters connected with the industries of New Zealand has been considering its report for over a week, and has almost completed its The committee proposes to hold its final meetmg when Parliament- assembles, and to have its report ready for presentation early in the session. It will be long and comprehensive, including not only matters directly relating to industry, .but such associated questions aa housing, on which . the committee will make recommendations. The report evidently aims a,t pretenting a complete policy to- Parliament for the encouragement of New Zealand’s secondary industries and.the provision of an adequate labour supply. Several Ministers have held consultations with the committee, these including the Hon A.M. Myers, Minister of Customs, who has been consulted in regard to the recommendations which will be made about the Customs-tariff ; The'members of the committee consider that the time is , very opportune to submit to Parliament a thoroughly comprehensive report; for policies are in the melt-ing-pot, and their proposals, coming from a body ■ representative of all parties, should be of value in coming to practical .conclusions for the .benefit of New Zealand’s secondary industries.
