Amona; the troops who returned by the R-uahine, which has arrived at Wellington, was Second-Li'e utenant Laurent, V.0., son of Air J. Laurent, of Hawera.
A cable message from Sydney announces the death of Mr Walter T. Cox, acting-general manager for the Orient Lino, and formerly commander of several mailboats.
Mr L. M. Isitt received a cablegram yesterday stating that his son, Lieutenant L M. Isitt, of the E-oval FivCorps, left Plymouth on ‘ July 'i N the s.s- Normand, due in New Zealand about the middle of August,
The Mayor (Dr Thacker. M-PJ left tor Wellington last night. He hopes to be back on Thursday morning. During his absence the Deputy-Mavor (Councillor J. W. Beanland) will attend at the Council Chamber from 11 a.m. till 12 30 p.m.
~ Amongst the arrivals in Nelson by the Mapourika last week was Lieutenant H. Hamilton, of the Royal Air Force, who was on active service for nearly five years. Lieutenant Hamilton, who belongs to Nelson, wears two wound stnnes. He left New Zealand with the Alain Body, served-on Gallipoli. and afterwards went to England, where ho joined the Royal Air Force. After gaining his Commission, ho saw in France, and had many excite ing Incidents in his career as an airman. While flying over the German hues, his machine took fire, and he was tweed to descend, controlling his machine meanwhile from a hazardous position on a wing of the airnlane. Being taken a prisoner by the Germans, Lientenant Hamilton spent twenty months m internment camps, and was eventually released when the armistice. was signed- Asked as to the treatment he received while a prisoner of war. Lieutenant Hamilton indicated that it mainly depended on who was the camp commandant, and how a man behaved mmself.
