RANGIORA HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.
The annual mooting of the Bangiora High School Board was held last evening; present —Mr 11, Ball (chairman), the Rev P. P. Fendall, Messrs fl, Boyd, W. A. Banks, 0. W. Bell, B. Collie, J. Marshall, J. Stevenson and C. I. Jennings. Iho chairman read the annual report, rli , recorc F < l ver y fully the main features of the board’s operations, and stated that the year had been a record one in so far as the number of pupils on the school roll was concerned.' On the scholastic side there was satisfactory evidence that the standard of attainment of the scholars had been well maintained. It was noted that the need for a now school had become extremely acuta owing to the large increase in attendance, and that after much correspondence on the subject the Government had made a grant, and it was confidently anticipated that the erection of the new school would be commenced very soon. i'he balance-sheet, which was adopted subject to audit, showed the receipts as £3618 Is, including balance brought forward £339 Ss 6d, capitation £1432 19s iod, rent of reserve £lB9 6s 4d, school fees £l5O 16s 6d, technical instruction £255 15s 6d and hostel fees £749 14s , o expenditure was £3743 Is, leaving a debit balance of £125, The principal disbursements were—Salaries £1514 Is 9d, on buildings £678 4s Bd, technical teachers’ salaries £324 6s lOd and general accounts £975 18s 4». Mr R. Ball letired from tho chairmanship' ot the board alter occupying ih'e office'for thirteen years. Hostels Jennin»s' Fendall, Messra kell, Ball and Votes of thanks were accorded to the teaching' staff, to the several committees, and to the Baugiora County Council for tho use ot the meeting room, th'en hol'd mary m ° atiDg of lhe boßxd was Miss E, A. Pitts wrote, resigning her position as dress-cutting instructor. Her resignation was accepted with regret, and instructions wore given to advertise for a eucceesor. Much correspondence was read in reference to the erection of ths now school. The principal (Mr J. E. Slrachan) reported that the school opened for the second term with a roll of 143, beys 64, girls 79, He suggested that the board should appoint a sub-committee to go into the matter of a war memorial. Ho mentioned (hat the boys had unanimously decided that the swimming sports prize money should bo used as the nucleus of a war memorial fund for the school. Tho chairman, tho Rev F. P. Fendall, Messrs_ Bell and Jennings were appointed a memorial sub-committee. A month's leave of al-sence was granted to M. Barroll, of the agricultural staff, on account of ill-health. Mr Ferguson, agricultural instructor, introduced several matters of importance in connection with agricultural education, which were referred to the Agricultural Committee to deal with. A special vote of thanks was. accorded to Mr T. Leech for the deep practical interest he had taken in the agricultural department of the school.
