TRAFFIC ISLANDS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —1 would like to congratulate ; you on the proposal made in an article !in the “Star” that traffic islands should he instituted with more freedom in Christchurch. The changes in . , methods of locomotion havo not been ' i met by a corresponding advance in j ’ traffic regulation, and it is time our | paternal Mayor and council grasped i : that fact- Traffic islands will assist to j a groat extent, but they will not provide the whole cure. As’ long as Cathcdral Square is a tramway depot, and traffic is encouraged to converge there, trouble will come to ns as sure as the sparks fly upwards. My opinion is that some of tbo trams should not enter the Square, but should stop at Gloucester I Street and the Clock Tower. Why | should the Eiccarton trams come into i Cathedral Square? The subject wants | to he dealt with comprehensively, and j I hope our council will ma.ke its voice j heard.—l am, etc., REGULATION.
