A special meeting of the East Christchurch School Committee was held on Monday evening to consider a letter from the Education Board with reference to an application from the Repatriation Board for the use of the South _ Belt School for special classes in conjunction with the Technical College- During the evening a deputation of parents waited on the committee, and presented a petition signed hy fifty-four householders protesting against the proposal. After a long discussion the following resolution was carried:—“ That this committee after giving the matter of allowing the Repatriation Board the uso of the South Belt School its earnest consideration has decided: —(l) That it cannot agree to same unless a new school of the same size be erected in the vicinitv of the present site; (2) that as the parents of most of the scholars are of the labouring class it is out of the question to ask them to send their children further afield, especially durino- the cold and wot weather; (3) that as the Department has already refused increased accommodation it cannot see how the South Belt School can he handed over owing to tho cone'estod state of the adjacent schools; (4) that it desires to help tho Repatriation Board all it can in their difficult work and much regrets for the reasons stated above to refuse tho use of the school’*
