LINWWOOD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
On Thursday evening a large gathering of people assembled, in the Linwood Presbyterian Hall to sav fare veil to Mr and Mrs J. Tenneht tfnd family. Mr lennent came out from Scotland six and a half years ago to do Church extension work in connection with St 1 Paul’s Churchy He was in charge of i the ISew Brighton and Linwood 3 branches . until the New Brighton t branch was large enough to have a sole charge missioner, and Mr Tennent then took charge of .Linwood. and Richmond. He has now,, received and accepted a call from New Brighton and will take u[i his duties there on Sunday. J.lie Bev J. Paterson took the chair and spoke of the great work Mr Tenneut had done since his connection with fet Paul s Church, and conveyed to him tile best wishes ’ of the congregations of Linwood, Richmond and St Panl siu his new charge. Other speakers were the Rev R. M. R.-rbuni, Messrs R. H. Wilson, W. Strange, P. Herons and J. Stout. Musical items were given by Mr W. Strange, Misses M. Gibb, J. Hannah and M. Searell. and a recitation by Miss. D. Sherwood. On behalf of the congregations Mr P. Herons presented Mr Tennent with an address signed by the office-bearers and members of the churches, and Mr and Mrs Tennent with a purse containing a cheque for over £36 and suitable presents to the members of the -family.Mr Tennent, in replying on behalf of himself , and family expressed regret at leaving, but felt it . his duty to respond to the unanimous call ho. had received. Supper was served by the ladies and the evening ended with the singing of “God be with you till we meet again.”
