UPPER RICCARTON SCHOOL.
The annual prize distribution of the Upper Riccarton School took place on Friday in. the presence of a large number of parents and residents. Mr B. Bucknall, chairman of the School Committee, presided. Mr 6. Witty, M.P., presented the prizes to the boys, -while those for the girls were presented by Mrs English. Each boy and, girt in the school received a book, in addition to which a largo number of special prizes were given. The boys and girls of Standard VI. presented the head master, Mr H. English, with a set of carvers. Afternoon tea was provided by the girls .of the school, after which an exhibition of swimming and diving was given by the boys. The following is the special prize list: Standard Vl.—Dux boy, Fred Holmes; dux girl, Grace Harris. Composition, Thomas Hill. Reading, Edwin Blakeway. Most popular girl in the School, Edna Spencor. Standard V.—Proficiency, Eric M’Grath. Perseverance and conduct. Joyce Pearson. Arithmetic, Mclva Buoknell Composition, Ruby Wallace and Delicia Carr (equal). Reading and spelling, Fred Smith. Most popular boy in the school, John Snencer. Writinc Alex. Marshall. . ring. Standard IV.—Proficiency, Harold, Exton. Arithmetic, Rita Muir. Composition, Frankiyn Bowes, English, Pearl Blakcway.
