— i —‘ MORE LAND WANTED, ’rile Hon J. A. Hanan, Minister nf Education, accompanied by Mr L. M Isitt, ALP., and Dr Thaokfcr, ALP., visited Shirley School this morning. Ht> by Mr J. AV. Bcanland, C. a. Thomson and IV. Bolch, of the local School Committee, who stated that it was proposed to acquire an area of raur acres of land on the opposite side of the road from the present school for The residents wore prepared to find a portion qf the money, and it was understood that the Education Board would make a grant. The Minister was asked to find the balance. Mr Hanan said that representations had already been made to him by the Hon G. AV Russell, Air Isitt and Dr 1 hacker m favour of an enlarged area. He had seen the land, and would be very pleased to give careful consideration to the representations of the committee, more especially as the local people were willing to find a portion of the cost. He was of opinion, however, that the amount asked for the land was exorbitant, and he hoped that it would be considerably reduced. He had noted the suggestion that the land should bo taken under the Public Works Act.
