Although tho trouble at Goldsworthy was suppressed, it Ms found necessary to train machine-guns on tho German internees before order was restored. (A previous message stated that interned Gorman bakers at Goldsworthy struck, demanding the union rate of pay. Bakers mere brought from Sydney, and order was restored.) LABOUR, COUNCIL PRESIDENT. The Labour Council has elected Mr J. Howie president GOVERNOR’S SALARY. Mr Holman states that the Governor's salary will not ho increased. FLOODS CAUSE GREAT DAMAGE. SYDNEY, March 7. Floods in the Eden district caused great damage- So far there have been two deaths from drowning. Torrential rains on the north coast and floods have caused enormous damage. Many townships are isolated. THE POOTSCRAY FLOODS. MELBOURNE, March 7. Heavy rain is still falling in the Pootscray district, but the flood water is subsiding. Heavy damage has been wrought and hundreds of families are homeless. At a. late hour tho Yarra was steadily rising. INFLUENZA. MELBOURNE, March 7. There have boon four additional deaths from influenza.
