A PRIMITIVE WEAPON.
. ♦ Tho iaciians of the inter or of British Guiana, kil! their game as well as the bird-} <d the -forest by moans of tire hlowguu or blowpipe.- Although a primitive weapon, it is very ingeniously constructed. It, consists of two tubes, one within tho other, separated by wrappings of fibre or cotton cemented m place by beeswax or gum. At one end one or two teeth of animals arc attached which serve as a sight, while at the other a mouthpiece is fitted. Through the tube the native fires or blows darts, about the sj&e of steel knitting needles, made of tho silvers of palm-leaf midrib. In tho hands of the Guiana native the blowpipe is a terrible weapon. They make sure of kllliue the larger animals by dipping the little darts into a strong Tegetabl (^poison.
