The .District Repatriation Board has almost unanimously decided that all advances made to returned soldiers who appeal for assistance shall he free of interest. Under the provisions of the regulations approved by the Director ot Repatriation in Wellington, soldiers may borrow £SO free of interest, and an additional £3OO at 5 per cent. The charging of this interest was strongly opposed by Mr Leadley and Mr Howard at. last night's meeting of the board, and at the conclusion of the meeting the met in committee, when the matter was anain brought up. After considerable discussion, the board deoided. that the deputy chairman, who had been authorised to visit Wellington on the occasion of the forthcoming conference of chairmen of .District Boards, should submit a remit to the effect that, the Christchurch board advocated! policy of granting fijjWic-re entirely free bens to ratttwJL
