f large sum received. Large sums were received hv Mr J Macdonald, Bate Collector/during Monday and the preceding few days. The money’ wax brought in hv the announcement that after Monday ii penalty of 1.0 per cent would he added to all rates unpaid. During the past fortnight the sum of £64,700 18s od has been paid. The largest sum was paid on the last flay before the penalty was imposed, when the collector received no less than £22.747 17s 4d. The sum outstanding, which is proportionately small, is about, the same as was outstanding last year. The following are the suras paid in each day since February 17•
