QUARTERLY MEETING. .The quarterly meeting of the Lady Liverpool Fund was hold to-day in tho Oity Council Ghiiiubor, tho -Mayoress Holland) presiding over a very largo attendance, Mrs Holland said that it was four years and seven months since they had I met. at the request of Lady Liverpool, to consider how host they could help [ the soldiers who were then mobilising ! for war. 'ldle men had done their duty nobly, and tho women had hacked them up to the host of their ability. M Oman’s capacity for work had been a marvel to herself and to men. Never had she had sneh opportunities for service, and never had she risen so unselfishly and so soll'-forge Hiugly to do what she considered her duty. They had had behind them a loyal ami generous public. The work ronld not possibly ho carried on without funds, and every appeal or effort was given generous support. That tho work was appreciated by the soldiers was provedby thousands of letters received, not only by the Central Depot, but bv all the brandies. It was a great satisfaction to know that so nuieb bad been accomplished, and that the Canterbury area, which included Nobon, Marlborough and 'Westland, could show such a- fine record. The regular and untiring support of the branches bad meant success for the fund As president, she thanked those present for all the kindness ami bcln they had accorded her and the execniive. Owing io the sudden cessation of hostilities and the ; speedv demobilisation of the coldievs making the sending of mired* to the soldiers no longer necessary, the exoutive had a "onsiderable stock o r woods on band. Those bad nearly all hem, realised on. and bad augmented the fund considerably. The Traimvnv Copncr Trail Committee bad not bad a final meeting, the* ■ enidemie and the absence from town of members of the .executive being responsible, for the delay. The executive had already received £3090 on account from that effort. and there was something b'ko £2-190 more to come. The executive desired to sincerely thank the many workers of that committee. Pinee the last meeftimr the committee had dispatched 1.453 oases, containing 0(5.897 nnreels, besides clothing for hostels and food for Iran snort?, „r a total value of £12.392 13s Ud. Tliis brought the monetary value of goods sent from August 7. 1914, to February 28, 1919, to £94.483 11s 7d. The total number of parcels was 230.000, besides clothing for hostels, trahsnorts. and so on. The treasurer (Mr T. W, llepse'i reported that since August 1 last flic receipts had be«n TSI3 2s 3d, and the expenditure £5382 leaving an excess of £1921 2s 3d. There- was £2400 on deposit, while .took sold or on band represented £1420. The copper trail was expected to yield a further sum nfk £2OOO, bringing' tlm total amount in sight to £7717 1.4s sd.
