Telegrams from Berlin state that conditions remain chaotic and critical. The newspaper strike continue?, “ Vonvaerts ” being tho only paper publishing. Socialists distributed by aeroplane throughout Germany 3,000,000 copies of a proclamation Urging the workers to oppose tho terrorism of the minority. The proclamation and tho threat of officials and business people to instigate a counter-strike made a deep impression upon the workers. There is nope that a. general strike will be avoided. Serious street fighting has taken phiee between Government troops and workers at Leipzig, which is threatened with famine. Von Lettow, on arriving from Africa, had a remarkable public welcome at the Brandenburg Gate. Tho crowd jeered and hissed Allied officers in the neighbourhood. It was necessary to bar the doors of their hotel. (Received March 5, 11.20 a.m.) AMSTERDAM, March 4. A sensation was caused in Germany when, during the debate on the Army Bill at Weimar, Deputy Cohn confessed that when Herr Wolff left Berlin ho transferred to Cohn £1,000,000 nominally to assist tho Russian civilians, and also gave him control of 15,500,000 roubles at Mendcllsohn’s Bank, Berlin. Colin said ho regarded (ho money as party funds and used some to subsidise party newspapers.
