There was not so lame an attendance as in other years, hut the sport was enjoyable Private W. Murray, the first of the soldiers to return since tho end of the war, arrived this trip. Relations and i fiends are eagerly looking forward to the arrival of the others. Quite ft number of tho old settlers are selling their interests hero and leaving for the mainland, so unless tho returned soldiers are content to settle down here, the white population will be much decreased. Tho s.s. Stella is making three trips for wool. _ With the exception of 100 bales, which tho Hinemoa took before Decemberj tho whole year’s clip has been waiting here. So far no arrangements have been made for a steamer for the island trade. The people hero are now considering buying one. Not a sheep has been shipped to the Now Zealand markets for the last eight months. ‘ ri ” 1
