TV Canterbury College Board of worevndrs at Sts meeting yesterday afternoon appointed Mr R. J. Thompsftn to tee position of Housemaster of the Boys 1 High School Boarding House, lor the year 1.919. In "view of Ibng and meritorious service, the Board of Governors of Canterbury College yesterday decided to grant Mr G. H. French, caretaker of the Boys’ High School, a further six mouths leave of absence, on full pay, on account of ill-health, the resignation of the position to ho accented as from .Juno 30, 1919.

Rifleman Goorgo Dunphy (Ninth Rranfdrcemeut), eldest son of Mr George Dunphy, Fairfield, Ashburton, viio died in the Christchurch Hospital r&CGntly, was buried in tbo Ashburfon Cemetery on Tuesday with full military honours. Lieutenant Blathwayt, and a firing party of returned soldiers escorted the body io the cemetery. The Rev H. .N. Wright conducted the service, a volley was fired and the “ Last Itest was sounded by SergeantTrlunpeter D. Moore. Mrs J. M’.Keclmic, of Blako Street, Rangiora, has been advised by tee 'Min. Wter of Defence that her husband, Sergeant .lames M’Kechnie, who left with the Eleventh Reinforcements, has been awarded a, Military Medal for bravery eiv _Uio field of action. Sergeant M Kechnie, who was twice wounded, was subsequently engaged training men at Sling Camp.

Lieutenant John Trevor Thomas. The extract was as follows For Conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when'in command of a platoon. When his platoon was outflanked by the enemy he organised a party and. rushed the enemy’s position, capturing a ma-chine-gun artd forty-two prisoners. He snowed a fine personal example throughout.”- Advice was previously received that Lieutenant Thomas was a prisoner of war, and was in’ good health.
