ASSESSMENT COURT.

HALSWELL VALUATIONS.

A sitting of the Assessment Court was held this morninc to bear objections to the Halswell valuation roll. Mr S. E. M’CarUiy, S.M., was chairman, and the assessors were Messrs A. Freeman and A, Smith.

J. TV. Lill objected to the valuation of 234 acres, on which the capital valuation was £10,380, unimproved value £9380, and improvements £920. The Court reduced the capital value to £9832, and tho unimproved value to £8913

Tim Ellesmere Lands Drainage Board objected to the valuation of nine acres at £230. £220 and £10: also of 88 acres at £1790. £1760 and £3O; 28 acres at £670, £6-15 and £25; 11 acres a;’ £250. £2-10 and £10; 55 acres at £l2lO, £1220 and £2O; 20 acres at £l5O, £4lO and £10; 20 acres at £-160, £l4O and £2O. Tu cross-examination t-lm clerk to the .board admitted that the tenants had been apprised of the valuations, and in practically every ease had overbid the upset rental. In the circumstances, the hoard declined to alter any of-the valuations.

John Cossar objected to the valuation of 213 acres at £2BOO. £2335 and £165; and of 61 acres at £2200, £2135 and- £65. The Court reduced the first valuations to £2700, £2llO and £590. and the second to £2013 and £1913, at the same time increasing the value of improvements to £IOO. Cornelius .Murphy appealed against the valuation of 36 acres at £2120, £I9BO and £440- Ihe Court reduced the capital and unimproved values to £2l-10 ami £I7OO.

H. S. Hobday (ro R. M. D. .Morten), appealed against the valuation of 10 acres at £740, £7OO and £lO. Tho Court sustained the valuation. Andrew Craig objected to the valuation of 20 acres at 1620. £I4OO and £220. The Court reduced the valuations to £1520 and £I3OO.
