I A FINE ACHIEVEMENT,
FORTY VILLAGES GAINED. Australian and N. 16. Cablo Association. (Received August 30, 10.10 a.m.) LONDON. August 29. A French communique states: —We continued to pursue the enemy, who under our pressure precipitately retreated on a front of thirty kilometres. Wo reached the heights on tho left hank of tho Somme from Gizancourt as far as cast of Nesle. Further south we reached the western bank of Canal Du Nortl, along tho greater part of its course between Noslo and Noyon. North of the Oiso wc captured Pont i’Evcquo (eouth of Noyon), Vauchellcs and Porquericourt (both west of Noyon). Our advance to-day exceeds ten kilometres ..t some'points. : T6rty villages have been recaptured. Vast quantities of material were abandoned by the Germans, including three heavily laden trains. Five hundred prisoners were captured. In lively fighting between the pise and the Aisne, in the region of Juvigny (north of Soissons and Chavigny) tho Americans repulsed several counterattacks. They also frustrated a _ big German attempt to cross tho Yeslo couth of Bazoclies and Fismes.
