FRENCH ADVANCE.
CAVALRY IN NESLE. ■Reulor'a Telegram?. (Received Angus* 29, 2.5 p.m.) T . T . , PARIS, August 28. The French cavalry are in Neslo. DESPERATE RESORTS, CALL ON ALL RANKS. THE GERMAN RESISTANCE. Router's Telegrams. (Received August 29. 1.50 p.m.) LONDON, August 28. . Reuter's correspondent at tho British Headquarters, writing this mornlug, says:—Tho Germans arc massing on the Bapaumo-Gueudoeourt-Guillo-mont lino, but remain conspicuously weak in'guns, having lost so many and withdrawn others far to the roar. The Germans are putting in bandsmen, sanitary units and road menders to reinforce the fighters. An amazing jumble of units has been swept up from wide distances to try to stem the tide. We captured an immense quantity of new equipment and stores. Miraumout yielded vast quantities of engineering stores, whilst, in many places wo have retaken whole ammunition dumps abandoned during our March retreat. Tho return of these is proving of inestimable service to tho swiftly advancing gunners, as well as relieving tho transport branch of one of its heaviest tasks, ft is quite easy to understand why the Germans aro resisting eastward of Arras, as an Allied success here will constitute a serious strategical menace.
