Mr. Gordon Gilmour, who is visiting the recaptured ground. say s that the graves of Britishers killed in previous battles were found to be largely intact, except, where a shell had burst and disturbed them. The town of Albert is now a shattered wreck. Great chunks of masonry wore thrown up from the foundations i 6 church. The magnificent church entrance was gone, together with part of the front, on which stood in\ •ij • mo 'L s statue of the Virgin and Uuld. Unless the Germans stole the V irgin the statue must be buried under mountains of debris. Die buildiim i s entirely roofless, except a single stone gable over the altar. The houses smashed by the British artillerving ...keel the Ancre and canals flowing through Albcr., and created a lake on t he low ground northward of the town Wt of which trees stand queerly. ’
